What is Google Takeout?

Google Takeout is a service where you can collect and backup data from Google products that you have used. To use it, we simply need to select the emails, files, photos, etc. that we want to backup, and have Google Takeout export these selected data into a downloadable archive file.

How to use Google Takeout

Go to the Google Takeout website by clicking here.

Sign in to your BMail account.

Create a New Export by selecting which products you want to backup

  • You can select specific emails, files or folders to backup

  • Once these are selected, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Next Step.”

Choose file type, frequency and destination.

  • Delivery Method should be “Send download link via email.”

  • Frequency should be “Export Once.”

  • File type and size should be “.zip” and “2GB” respectively.

  • Click “Create Export”

Wait for the email from Google Takeout.

Download each Zip file.

Extract your files.

From here, we can backup our emails using Mozilla Thunderbird and/or backup our files using Microsoft OneDrive.
