Secure your Google Workspace account by setting up 2-step verification. This adds an extra layer of security to your account against cybercriminals. Follow these steps to enable this:

  1. Log in to your Google Workspace account on the Google Accounts (https://myaccount.google.com/) page.
  2. If you’re in BMail or Drive, click your account, then click Manage your Google Account.
  3. Click Security.
  4. In How you sign in to Google, check if your 2-Step Verification is turned on.
  5. If it’s turned off, click it.
  6. Click Get started.

Get a Verification Code

  1. Receive a verification code every time you log in. Type your mobile phone number.
  2. Choose how you will receive the code: Text message or Phone call.
  3. Click Show more options to receive a code through a Security Key or a Google Prompt on your phone.
  4. Click Next
  5. The code will be sent to your phone.
  6. Type the code that you received. Click Next.
  7. Once your number is confirmed, click Turn on to enable 2-step verification.

Get a Prompt on Your Device

  1. If your account is signed in on your device, you’ll see it under These devices can get prompts
  2. Click Continue if you want to use these device/s as your second verification. This means that when you log in on a different device or browser, you’ll accept sign-in attempts from this device.
  3. As a backup, type your mobile phone number and choose Text message or Phone call. When you don’t have access to the device listed, Google can send a verification code to your mobile number.
  4. Click Send.
  5. Type the verification code sent to your phone and click Next.
  6. Once your number is confirmed, click Turn on to enable 2-step verification.

Use Google Authenticator

  1. Go back to your Security settings.
  2. In How you sign in to Google, click Authenticator from the other sign-in options.
  3. Click Set up authenticator.
  4. Install Google Authenticator on your phone.
  5. Google Authenticator generates time-sensitive codes that you can use to log in. It also works offline. Click Get started.
  6. Tap + and choose Scan a QR code.
  7. Scan the QR code on the app.
  8. After scanning the QR code, click Next.
  9. You will see the code that you will use in the app. The code is time-sensitive and changes every time the code timer ends.
  10. Enter the code you see in the app. Click Verify.
  11. You can now use Google Authenticator as your second verification.

You have now enabled 2-step verification. From now on, you’ll get a code or a prompt whenever a sign-in attempt is made to your account.
