Creating and managing assignments and projects is streamlined through Dropbox, which provides a centralized location for student submissions. This feature saves you time by organizing all submitted assignments in one place, allowing you to easily track their status and manage everything from a single page.
- From the BigSky homepage, click on the course where you want to create a Dropbox folder.
- In the Navigation Bar, click Assessment > Dropbox.
- Click New Folder.
- Enter the Assignment Title and Instructions. You can also upload attachments required for the activity.
- If the activity is not graded, set Grade Out Of as Ungraded. If it’s graded, indicate the maximum grade for the activity (for example, 100).
- You can set the deadline for submitting the activity in Due Date.
- Once done, click Save and Close. Toggle the Visible button to make sure students can see this.
You can also create a Dropbox folder from the Content page. Select a module where you want to post an assignment then click New > New Dropbox.
Set Availability Dates
You can define when students can view the assignment by setting the Start Date and End Date under Availability Dates and Conditions. The Start Date marks when students can start viewing the assignment while the End Date sets the last day they will see the Dropbox.
The End Date is not the same as the Due Date. Students can still submit their files in Dropbox even if it’s past the Due Date since the Dropbox folder will still be accessible to them as long as it’s still within the end date specified.
Set Release Conditions
If your students are required to complete an activity before they can view the assignment, you can add Release Conditions.
- Click Add Release Condition > Create New. Choose Add existing if there are previous conditions you want to reuse.
- Select the Condition Type from the drop-down menu (for example, Completed content topic).
- Define the Condition Details.
- Click Create.
By creating this, the student will only be able to view the assignment if they accomplish the conditions defined.
Grant Special Access
Follow these steps if there are students who will be granted special access to the assignment:
- Click Manage Special Access.
-
Choose your intended setting:
- Allow users with special access to submit outside the normal availability dates for this folder - Users will be able to view and submit assignments beyond the defined availability dates.
- Allow only users with special access to see this folder - the Dropbox folder will only be viewable to specific users.
- Click Add Users to Special Access and define the dates and users.
Minimum BigSky Usage Requirements:
- Instructions should be placed in the designated field.
- Due dates should be set to encourage your students to meet deadlines.
- Text, audio, or video feedback should be given for each activity.
- Assignments should be done in the Dropboxes by entering a value in the score field.
