Participating in discussions fosters class-wide communication, builds connections among students, and enhances their learning experience. BigSky offers two types of discussions: Forums, which group similar topics, and Topics, where the discussions occur.
Create a Discussion Forum
- From the BigSky homepage, click on the course where you want to create the discussion.
- On the Navigation Bar, click Communication > Discussions.
- Click New and select New Forum.
- Enter the details on the Properties tab, including Title, Description, and Option settings.
- Optionally, configure Availability, Release Conditions, and Group and Section Restrictions on the Restrictions tab.
- Click Save and Close to return to the Discussions List page, where your new forum will appear. Alternatively, use Save and Add Topic to add topics directly to your new forum.
Create a Discussion Topic
- From the BigSky homepage, click on the course where you want to create the discussion.
- On the Navigation Bar, click Communication > Discussions.
- Click New and select New Topic.
- Fill in the details with Title, Grade Out Of, and Description.
- Customize the settings using the panels on the right: Availability Dates & Conditions, Post & Completion, and Evaluation & Feedback.
- Click Save and Close to return to the Discussions List page, where your new topic will be listed under your forums.
