De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Center of Educational Technology is committed to Benilde’s digital learning culture. Otherwise known as CET, it is responsible for overseeing applications that facilitate teaching and learning, organizing training initiatives and programs to enhance skills, and managing the creation of digital learning materials. The center’s core values are to humanize the digital learning culture, serve to empower, respond with empathy, lead with integrity, and exemplify excellence.
CET is divided into 2 units:
- The Learning Environment Unit (CET - LEU) manages the College’s learning management system, BigSky Benilde, and other educational technology tools. LEU offers training and capacity-building activities for faculty and students and collaborates with schools, programs, units, and centers to ensure everyone in the academic community has equal access to enriching learning experiences.
- The Learning Environment Unit (CET - LEU) has two sub-units: EdTech Skills, and EdTech Tools. EdTech Skills supports the development of skills within the academic community by offering training and mentoring opportunities to teachers, students, and associates. The focus is on integrating cutting-edge educational technologies and implementing capacity-building programs throughout the college. While EdTech Tools administers the college’s online learning management system, BigSky, along with all related support services. This includes providing solutions and strategic implementation of educational technology systems, generating data for assessment and evaluation, and exploring new technologies to enhance the educational experience for both faculty and students.
Recognizing the need to keep up with academic advancements led to the adoption of Brightspace, a management system by Desire2Learn (D2L) designed for a seamless online learning and teaching experience. In Benilde, Brightspace is called BigSky. It was launched in 2016 as the College’s official cloud-based integrated learning platform (ILP).
- Digital Learning Unit (CET - DLU), formerly known as the Content Development Unit, designs, develops, standardizes, centralizes, and archives instructor-supported and self-paced online courses. DLU also helps faculty create and implement online teaching and learning strategies through various College-wide initiatives, as well as provide guidance and training to staff in the use of technology.
CET envisions a Borderless Benilde. It is their mission to create and maintain a supportive, person-focused digital learning environment for all stakeholders with a lively and welcoming approach.
Since 2017, Benilde has held the prestigious title of an Apple Distinguished School (ADS). This award by the Apple Education Recognition program, is reserved for educational institutions worldwide that are recognized as leaders in providing exceptional education, technical innovation, and exemplary leadership.
