If you weren't able to set up 2-step verification, you won't be able to log in to your Google Account. If you can still access your account on another device, try to set up 2-step verification by following these steps and test if you can already log in afterward. Still can't access your account? Secure your Google Workspace account by setting up 2-step verification. This adds an extra layer of security to your account against cyber criminals. Follow these steps to enable this:
- Log in to your Google Workspace account on the Google Accounts page.
- If you’re in BMail or Drive, click your account then click Manage your Google Account.
- Click Security.
- In How you sign in to Google, check if your 2-Step Verification is turned on.
- If it’s turned off, click it.
- Click Get started.
Get a Verification Code
- Receive a verification code every time you log in. Type your mobile phone number.
- Choose how you will receive the code: Text message or Phone call.
- Click Show more options to receive a code through a Security Key or a Google Prompt on your phone.
- Click Next.
- The code will be sent to your phone.
- Type the code that you received. Click Next.
- Once your number is confirmed, click Turn on to enable 2-step verification.
Get a Prompt on Your Device
- If your account is signed in on your device, you’ll see it under These devices can get prompts.
- Click Continue if you want to use these device/s as your second verification. This means that when you log in on a different device or browser, you’ll accept sign-in attempts from this device.
- As a backup, type your mobile phone number and choose Text message or Phone call. When you don’t have access to the device listed, Google can send a verification code to your mobile number.
- Click Send.
- Type the verification code sent to your phone and click Next.
- Once your number is confirmed, click Turn on to enable 2-step verification.
Use Google Authenticator
- Go back to your Security settings.
- In How you sign in to Google, click Authenticator from the other sign-in options.
- Click Set up authenticator.
- Install Google Authenticator on your phone.
- Google Authenticator generates time-sensitive codes that you can use to log in. It also works offline. Click Get started.
- Tap + and choose Scan a QR code.
- Scan the QR code on the app.
- After scanning the QR code, click Next.
- You will see the code that you will use in the app. The code is time-sensitive and changes every time the code timer ends.
- Enter the code you see in the app. Click Verify.
- You can now use Google Authenticator as your second verification.
You have now enabled 2-step verification. From now on, you’ll get a code or a prompt whenever a sign-in attempt is made to your account.
